ELIZABETHTOWN, KY, June 02, 2010—First Federal Savings Bank has announced that the annual Pops in the Park concert will take place on Friday, July 16th at Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown, KY. Gates open at 6:00 pm EST, with the concert beginning at 8:30 pm EST.
The alternate rain date for the event, if needed, would be Sunday, July 18th at the Park.
The theme of this year’s event is "A Tribute to the Heartland" with the Louisville Orchestra performing a program under the direction of conductor Jason Weinberger that includes music inspired by the American heartland, including arrangements from Aaron Copland, John Phillip Sousa, John Williams, Ferde Grofé, Duke Ellington, and Stephen Foster.
The Orchestra’s performance will be followed at sundown by a spectacular fireworks display over the lake from Zambelli Fireworks Internationale with music produced by and broadcast live on WQXE radio 98.3 FM.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to view some classic cars on display at the park as part of the "Cruising the Heartland with Comcast" event to take place in downtown Elizabethtown on July 17th & 18th. Organizers also ask attendees to bring a canned good to the event to benefit "Building a Wall Against Hunger."
This marks the 21st year that First Federal has sponsored, hosted and organized the event designed to support the arts in Central Kentucky and raise money for local charities. A donation of $5,000 will be made to the United Way of Central Kentucky from ticket proceeds, and the Elizabethtown Lions Club will be on hand to sell food to raise money for their organization.
General Admission tickets go on sale on Monday, June 7th at all First Federal Savings Bank locations. Adult tickets are $8.00, while tickets for children 12 and under are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
